Java applets page.

These pages have not changed for almost 30 years. Browsers learned to run Java applets in ~1996, and applets became popular: JavaScript could do very little back then. But JavaScript kept evolving, while applets needed Java to be installed and had security problems, and in 2015-2017 browsers dropped applet support. In 2026 the progress of AI gave this section a second life: AI wrote a JavaScript compatibility layer for applets and ported them to JavaScript, keeping the original Java code mostly unchanged. So now this page is a living (and working :) monument to what the Internet was like in 1997.
